American Indian History & Cultures programs

native culturesPeople have been living on and caring for this land for thousands of years.

The interpretive trail at the American Indian History Site guides you through time. Starting with the Paleo people, 8,000 years ago, learn about culture and technology of the people who called this land home. Also represented are the "Archaic" culture, and the Woodland culture. Visitors also have the opportunity to experience a Historic-era tipi.

During the American Indian History & Cultures program, groups learn about lifeways of humans through a long course of history. Try your hand at atlatl spear-throwers, starting a fire with flint and steel, and making toys from cattails.

Students will gain a new perspective on land-use and history through the American Indian History &: Cultures program.

Special thanks to the Southwest Initiative Foundation, United Way of Kandiyohi County, and the American Swedish Institute for making the Time Travel program possible.
