Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center is a regional center for environmental education and outdoor recreation located in beautiful Kandiyohi County in west central Minnesota.   Thanks for visiting our website!!   We provide an exciting array of hands-on learning adventures for all ages, as well as beautiful facilities for meetings and special events.   Give us a call and let us customize a program or event for your group.

Our mission:
To promote an individual and shared commitment to the responsible use, management, and preservation of our natural resources.

We offer customized programs and facilities that help people learn to live well with self, others and the environment.
*Environmental Ed. programs for pre-K thru grade 12 and adults
*Challenge course and teambuilding programs for schools, athletic teams, youth groups, families and corporate groups
*A 500 acre campus featuring: rolling glacial terrain,seven miles of hiking and xc ski trails, prairie,woods and wetlands.
*Great classroom and meeting spaces powered by wind, solar & biomass.
*Outreach programs featuring a 34' voyageur canoe and a 26' portable climbing wall
*An award winning YES! program which is mobilizing youth-led energy action projects across Greater Minnesota.

3rd Annual Sleigh & Ski Festival at Prairie Woods!
Sunday, Feb. 14th  11am-4pm.   Take your Sweetie for a sleigh ride on Valentines Day.
Bring your friends and family out to PWELC to enjoy free chili, sleigh rides, live music w/ Cedar Creek, winter games and  exhibits about fun winter hobbies, sports and crafts.   XC ski and snowshoe rental deals ($5 for 3 activities: ski, snowshoe and climb).   $15 max for families.

Smithsonian Water/Ways Exhibit
coming to PWELC and Kandiyohi County!!  Stay tuned for more details.   PWELC and over 16 partner organizations will be working together to promote wise use, enjoyment and appreciation of water in Kandiyohi County during 2016.    Check out Facebook for updates.

The Prairie Woods Pavilion- The excitement is building!   
Our building committee is working away on a design for the Prairie Woods Pavilion which will be located at the PWELC farmsite.  
With generous early contributions from our Prairie Stars and support pledged by Kandiyohi County we have already raised over $110,000 for the project.

The NEXT BIG  THING at Prairie Woods is HERE!!!
A 26' 5-climber portable climbing wall from Extreme Engineering arrived on Saturday, May 9, 2015 and became an instant success.

A big thanks to Willmar Area Community Foundation, Jennie-O Turkey Store, Prairie Stars, Cindy Westby Bequest, Minnesota Waterfowl Association- Prairie Pothole Chapter, Roger & Kay Strand and Kandiyohi County for helping to make this project a reality.
Watch for the Prairie Woods Pinnacle at Prairie Pothole Days, Kandiyohi County Fair and other special events in a 75mile radius of PWELC.
