Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center is a regional center for environmental education and outdoor recreation located in beautiful Kandiyohi County in west central Minnesota.   Thanks for visiting our website!!   We provide an exciting array of hands-on learning adventures for all ages, as well as beautiful facilities for meetings and special events.   Give us a call and let us customize a program or event for your group.

Our mission:
To promote an individual and shared commitment to the responsible use, management, and preservation of our natural resources.

We offer customized programs and facilities that help people learn to live well with self, others and the environment.
*Environmental Ed. programs for pre-K thru grade 12 and adults
*Challenge course and teambuilding programs for schools, athletic teams, youth groups, families and corporate groups
*A 500 acre campus featuring: rolling glacial terrain,seven miles of hiking and xc ski trails, prairie,woods and wetlands.
*Great classroom and meeting spaces powered by wind, solar & biomass.
*Outreach programs featuring a 34' voyageur canoe and a 26' portable climbing wall
*An award winning YES! program which is mobilizing youth-led energy action projects across Greater Minnesota.

Smithsonian Water/Ways Exhibit coming to PWELC and Kandiyohi County!!  June 25- August 7, 2016.  
Join us for the opening celebration at 10am on Saturday, June 25, 2016 and be sure to join us for the OKEE DOKEE Brothers Concert at 10:30am on Saturday, July 2nd.  The Smithsonian Institute, Minnesota Humanities Center and MPCA are major sponsors for this six-week exhibit at PWELC.    The Water/Ways exhibit will travel to six different venues throughout Minnesota over the next year and a half. We are excited to offer this exhibit to Kandiyohi County.
The exhibit will be open seven days a week with special programs offered each week.
Water/Ways Exhibit Hours:  M,T,W& F  8a-4pm, Th 8am-8pm, Saturday 10a-4pm, Sun. 1p-5pm

The Prairie Woods Pavilion- The excitement is building!   
Genesis Architects are completing the design for the Prairie Woods Pavilion which will be located at the PWELC farmsite.  
With generous early contributions from our Prairie Stars, invidual donors and support pledged by Kandiyohi County we have already raised over $200,000 for the project.

The NEXT BIG  THING at Prairie Woods is HERE!!!
A 26' 5-climber portable climbing wall from Extreme Engineering arrived on Saturday, May 9, 2015 and became an instant success.

A big thanks to Willmar Area Community Foundation, Jennie-O Turkey Store, Prairie Stars, Cindy Westby Bequest, Minnesota Waterfowl Association- Prairie Pothole Chapter, Roger & Kay Strand and Kandiyohi County for helping to make this project a reality.
Watch for the Prairie Woods Pinnacle at Prairie Pothole Days, Kandiyohi County Fair and other special events in a 75mile radius of PWELC.
Call us if you would like to schedule an outreach program featuring the Prairie Woods Pinnacle and/or the Big Canoe.

Prairie Woods on the go!   The Big Canoe and the new Prairie Woods Pinnacle- mobile rockclimbing tower, will be busy throughout the region this summer getting kids up off of the couch and into the great outdoors.   Click on the Facebook link to see photos  of some of the recent activity.
